Box Score DETROIT – Junior guard Kacee Hockenberry (Haviland, Ohio) scored 24 points and sophomore forward Melissa Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 20, but Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team suffered an 88-75 road setback at Wayne State on Saturday.
The Warriors shot 56.9 percent from the field as the Panthers fell to 3-3 (0-2 GLIAC). Wayne State improved to 3-1 (2-0 GLIAC).
Hockenberry hit 10-of-16 shots and a trio of three-pointers to account for her scoring, which came two days after she set a career-high with 28 points at Saginaw Valley State. Scherpenberg went 6-of-11 from the field and also pulled down 11 rebounds.
The first half featured nine lead changes, and the Panthers held a 25-24 advantage with 9:10 to play after a jumper from Hockenberry.
Wayne State answered with an 11-0 run, though, going in front 35-25 with 6:57 to play. The Panthers drew back within six, 44-38, on a layup by freshman forward Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) with 2:31 left, but the Warriors pushed their lead back to 11 at 51-40 at the half.
Scherpenberg and sophomore forward Alex Hallenbeck (St. Johns, Mich.) scored early in the second half to keep the Panthers within nine, but a 12-0 Warrior run pushed their lead to 66-45 with 14:39 to play.
Sophomore guard Rachael Torey (Sterling Heights, Mich.) added nine points for the Panthers, who return to action on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. against Ferris State in Alumni Hall.
