Women's Soccer Suffers 5-4 Setback in Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – A total of nine goals were scored on a chilly Sunday afternoon as the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team concluded their five game road trip with a 5-4 setback against GLIAC foe University of Findlay.

With the setback, the Panthers fall to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference, while the Oilers improve to a 2-3-1 overall record and 2-0-1 in GLIAC play.

The Panthers attacked first, scoring at the 6:35 mark after sophomore Emily Spencer (Gibsonia, Pa.) recorded her third goal of the season after freshman Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio) pushed the ball past the defense and allowed Spencer a shot at goal.

ODU struck again in the 17th minute after freshman Amanda Fowler (Mansfield, Ohio) connected with the back of the net off a deflected shot by junior Megan Augusta (Lyndhurst, Ohio , giving the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.

The Panthers were not finished in the first half, scoring their third goal after sophomore Jordan Mazzi (Galena, Ohio) connected on a pass from the right sideline on an Augusta pass.

Before the break, the Oilers cut the lead to two after Emily Beddoes scored from inside the goal box off a deflection on a Sarah Silone corner kick.

Following the break, Findlay cut the lead to 3-2 as Katie Burke scored from a Beddoes pass.

The Oilers scored the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute when Megan Gallaway headed the ball off a cross from Nicole Williams, giving Findlay their first lead of the game.

Not to be deterred, the Panthers knotted the game at 4-4 at the 76:00 mark when Mazzi chipped in her second goal of the game off a deflection on the corner kick by senior Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio).

Still tied at 4-4, Findlay's Katelyn Anderson knocked in the victory goal for the Oilers at the 80:11 mark when she connected with a deflected corner kick by Eryn Weber.

The Oilers held a 18-12 advantage on shots, including a 12-7 edge on shots on goal while both teams tied in corner kicks with five.

Sophomore goalie Laura Clark (Lapeer, Mich.) notched seven saves in goal in the loss.

The Panthers will return home this weekend as they face Northwood on Friday, Sep. 28 for a 7:00 p.m. contest and Saginaw Valley, Sunday, Sep. 30 at 2:00 p.m.
