The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team earned their second consecutive win, sweeping doubles enroute to a 8-1 win over visiting Lake Superior State University.
The Panthers jumped out to early leads on all three doubles courts and never looked back as they took 3-of-3 courts. Aline Mariano (Sr./Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Samanta Zambrano (Fr./Monterrey, Mexico) dominated on court win, earning 8-3. Carla Leggett (Fr./Madrid, Spain) and Anita Girizd (So./Ada, Serbia) earned their first conference win at #2 doubles, winning 8-5 in a close battle. Earning the third doubles point for the Panthers was Regina Camberos (Fr./San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Krista Derry (Sr./Baltimore, OH) with a 8-1 win on court three.
Singles play started with the Panthers jumping out to leads on the first three courts, winning 5-of-5 first sets. LSSU battled hard, but the depth of ODU proved the difference. Zambrano earned a win on court one, 6-2, 6-3, Girizd earned a nice win on court two, 6-0, 6-3; while Camberos won her match at #4 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Leggett and Derry each earned wins on courts five and six 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 and 6-2, 6-0.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow as they play host to Saginaw Valley State University in a GLIAC match-up with the Cardinals. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
