Box Score ALLENDALE, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team closed its road swing through western Michigan with a 65-38 setback Saturday at Grand Valley in GLIAC action.
With the setback, ODU fell to 3-4 overall (0-4 GLIAC), while the Lakers improved to 6-1 (3-1 GLIAC).
Junior forward Katelyn Stuckey (Millersburg, Ohio) led the Panthers with 13 points, scoring in double figures for the sixth time this season. Sophomore guard Paige Stought (Pickerington, Ohio) chipped in with 10 points, and sophomore forward Olivia Zwayer (Lewis Center, Ohio) added a career-best seven points.
Neither team could find a rhythm on the offensive side of the floor in the first half, with the Panthers connecting on just 5-of-27 shots (18.5 percent), compared to 7-of-26 shooting (26.9 percent) for the Lakers.
In fact, ODU hung around despite its last field goal make coming at the 10:37 mark of the half. Stuckey made a layup, followed by a jump shot by sophomore guard Kacee Hockenberry (Haviland, Ohio) that gave ODU a 14-12 advantage at that 10:37 point.
The Panthers then missed their next 13 shots, but GVSU could not mount much of a surge, scoring just seven points in a 9:34 stretch to go in front 19-14. Stuckey made a pair of free throws to end ODU's scoring drought with 44 ticks left, but an offensive putback by the Lakers gave the home team a 21-16 advantage at the break.
Stuckey kept the Panthers within eight, 33-25, with a pair of free throws at the 11:46 mark of the second half. But GVSU went on a 13-1 run over the next 4:04 to go in front 46-26, and the Panthers would get no closer than 16 points for the remainder of the game.
Ohio Dominican returns home for a 7:30 p.m. contest Thursday against Michigan Tech.
