Box Score BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Sophomore guard Kacee Hockenberry (Haviland, Ohio) scored a career-high 24 points, but Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team couldn't muster much else offensively as the Panthers fell 69-56 to Ferris State in GLIAC play Thursday at Wink Arena.
Hockenberry surpassed her previous career-high of 18 points, hitting 6-of-13 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free throw line. But the Panthers shot just32.7 percent (17-of-52) from the field while finishing with 21 turnovers, which turned into 28 Bulldog points. Ferris State, meanwhile, shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) while knocking down 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) from three-point range.
Freshman forward Melissa Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished with eight points and 11 rebounds, while junior forward Katelyn Stuckey (Millersburg, Ohio) added eight points and eight rebounds.
ODU went on a 9-2 run early to grab a two-point advantage, 9-7, in the opening minutes. The Bulldogs stormed back, scoring 13 of the next 16 points to go in front 20-12 at the 7:49 mark, and that advantage would swell to 34-20 at halftime.
ODU shot just 26.7 percent in the opening 20 minutes (8-of-30), missing its final six three-pointers and committing 12 turnovers in the frame. The Bulldogs hit 13-of-28 (46.4 percent) in the first half.
The Panthers couldn't mount much of a run in the second half, with sophomore guard Micaela Liddane (Grosse Point Woods, Mich.) scoring the first bucket of the half to make it a 12-point game. ODU would draw no closer the rest of the contest.
Ohio Dominican closes its weekend road trip with a 3 p.m. contest against Grand Valley on Saturday.
