Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – A cold shooting first half put Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team in a hole it could not recover from as the Panthers fell 78-51 to visiting Michigan Tech Thursday in GLIAC play at Alumni Hall.
With the setback, ODU fell to 3-5 (0-5 GLIAC), while the Huskies – who are in first place in the North Division – improved to 6-2 (4-1 GLIAC).
Freshman forward Melissa Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) led ODU with 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Sophomore guard Kacee Hockenberry (Haviland, Ohio) added 12 points with four assists, and sophomore guard Holly Brunswick (Fort Recovery, Ohio) came off the bench for a career-high nine points, drilling all three three-pointers she attempted.
The Panthers shot 34.6 percent from the field (18-of-52), but hit just 7-of-28 (25 percent) in the game's opening 20 minutes in falling to a 39-19 deficit at the break. Michigan Tech would stretch its advantage to as many as 35 in the second half.
The Huskies shot 33-of-71 (46.5 percent) from the field and had 23 assists on their 33 made baskets.
Scherpenberg had her second game of at least three blocks and three steals this season, while Hockenberry has now scored in double figures six times this year. Brunswick's previous career high in scoring was three points against Saginaw Valley earlier this season.
Ohio Dominican returns to the hardwood for a 7:30 p.m. tip Sunday against Northern Michigan in Alumni Hall.
