A long road trip and poor doubles play saw the Panthers end a two match winning streak on Thursday afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Lake Superior State turned in a solild performance to upend the visiting Panthers 5-4.
Doubles again proved to be the difference for ODU as they could not overcome from a slow start dropped 2-of-3 courts. Winning the lone doubles point for the Panthers was Sofia Espana-Perez (So./Mexico City, Mexico) and Aline Mariano (Jr./Sao Paulo, Brazil) on court one, 8-2.
In singles action, the Panthers took 3-of-6 courts but it wasnt enough as they fell to 2-2 in GLIAC play. Earning singles points for Ohio Dominican was Espana-Perez and Mariano at #1 and #3 singles 6-1, 6-3 and 7-6 (5), 6-0. Mari Monaco (Sr./Port Clinton, OH) continued her strong play on court six with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 win.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 9, as they continue their Northern Michigan trip as they take on Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
