The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team returned hom on Saturday morning, welcoming GLIAC foe Lake Erie College to Panther Courts. ODU quickly gained control of the match, dispersing the Storm 9-0.
In doubles play, ODU took little time gaining the momentum as they quickly jumped out to 3-0 leads on courts one and two. Lake Erie defaulted court three. Sofia Espana-Perez (So./Mexico City, Mexico) and Aline Mariano (Jr./Sao Paulo, Brazil) eventually took court one, 8-0 in quick fashion. On court two, Hanna Ukhal (Jr./Uzhgorod, Ukraine) and Mari Monaco (Sr./Port Clinton, OH) won 8-0.
ODU continued their strong play in singles action, taking 4-of-4 courts played. Espana-Perez, Krista Derry (Jr./Baltimore, OH), and April Zaborsky (Jr./Dublin, OH) each won 6-0, 6-0 on courts one, three and four. At #2 singles, Anita Girizd (Fr./Ada, Serbia) battled through a tough first set, eventually taking the match 6-4, 6-1.
The Panthers will return to action on Tuesday, September 27 as they travel to GLIAC rival Ashland University for a 3 p.m. match-up with the Eagles.
