Softball Resumes Play with Spring Trip to Georgia

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After an 11-day layoff, Ohio Dominican's softball team gets back to the diamond today in Carrollton, Ga. as part of their annual Spring Break trip.

The Panthers kick off the trip, playing six games in three days at the University of West Georgia Wolves' Invitational in Carrollton, beginning at 2 p.m. this afternoon against Barry University (Fla.) followed by a 6 p.m. clash with current NFCA No. 4, University of Alabama-Huntsville.

ODU continues the southern swing with a trip to Savannah, Ga. for the Boombah Savannah College of Art & Design Smash Hit Tournament, a four-game, two-day invite beginning on Tuesday, March 8, before concluding the trip at Reinhardt University (Ga.) with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 12.

The Panthers struggled in their opening weekend, losing five straight after defeating Maryville University (Mo.) 16-8 in six innings in the season opener. Jennifer Baker (Sr./Cortland, OH) hit .500 for the weekend, collecting 10 hits in 20 plate appearances and driving in five to lead ODU. Cassandra Weitz (Sr./Dayton, OH) also had a strong start to the season, batting .455 with five hits in 11 at-bats, five RBI and four runs scored, while freshman Brittany Seavey (Flint, MI) debuted with four hits and four runs in 12 at-bats and tied for the team lead with a pair of doubles.
