Eagles Soar Past ODU in Home Finale

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican women's basketball concluded its home slate for 2010-11 on a sour note, falling to South Division foe Ashland 64-44 in Alumni Hall on Thursday evening.

With the setback, the Panthers finish 4-10 at home, while dropping to 6-19 overall and 4-14 in the GLIAC. Ashland improves to 16-9 and 11-7 in the conference, currently one game behind Findlay for the division lead.

Playing in her final home game, senior Summer Swetlic (Mt. Vernon, OH) gave the Panthers the early lead with a three-pointer in the opening minute, but Ashland quickly took a six-point advantage with nine unanswered points in a 1:43 span. ODU pulled within 15-14 with 8:40 left in the first as juniors Tracy Snider (Lancaster, OH), Katy Rasor (Grove City, OH) and Meredith Fox (Springboro, OH) lined up triples. However, the Eagles, behind 13-of-25 (52.0 percent) shooting, closed the half on a 19-5 run to take a 34-19 lead into halftime.

The deficit hovered around 15 points for the first 10 minutes of the second half, before the Panthers clawed to within 47-37 with 8:10 remaining as Rasor followed a Shelley Warren (Jr./Solon, OH) lay-in with her second trey of the evening. ODU could get no closer, only scoring seven points the rest of the way as the Eagles cruised to the road win.

Fox reached double figures for the fifth straight game with 10 points to lead ODU. Summer Hale (Sr./Galena, OH) added eight, while Melissa Hersey (Sr./West Chester, OH) added four assists. Swetlic finished with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Ashland finished the game shooting 47.7 percent (21-of-44) and 19-of-22 (86.4 percent) from the free throw line, including 10-of-10 over the final 7:58. The Eagles also posted a 32-16 advantage in points in the paint and turned 20 ODU turnovers into 21 points.

Rachel Poorman led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Daiva Gerbec finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Lindsay Tenyak chipped in with 12.

ODU concludes its inaugural season in the GLIAC this Saturday with a 3 p.m. matchup at Tiffin.
