Scoring Drought Dooms Panthers in Setback to Eighth-Ranked Huskies

Box Score

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team gave No. 8 Michigan Tech a scare on Thursday evening, but a nearly eight minute long scoring drought midway through the second half allowed the Huskies to roll to the 59-42 home win.

With its second straight setback and first road loss, ODU falls to 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in the GLIAC, while Michigan Tech moves to 6-1 and 2-0 in conference play.

It was a tale of two halves for the Panthers as ODU outshot MTU 40 percent (10-of-25) to 37 percent including 45.5 percent (5-of-11) to 27 percent from three-point territory in the first. However, the Panthers only mustered two field goals in the second, hitting just one of their first 15 shots en route to a 2-of-18 effort.

Sophomore Katelyn Stuckey (Millersburg, OH) tallied ODU's first six points of the second, trimming the 30-25 halftime deficit to 35-31 at the 14:39 mark. Michigan Tech took over from there, mounting a lengthy 14-0 run that covered 7:46 on the clock and put the game out of reach for the Panthers. After failing to make it to the free throw line in the first, ODU went 12-of-16 (75.0 percent) in the second for 12 of the 17 points in the half.

Behind one of its stronger starts to a game this year and despite 15 giveaways, the Panthers were able to maintain a slim lead over the Huskies throughout much of the first 20 minutes. Tech ended the final 3:46 of the half on a 10-5 run for the five-point advantage at the break.

Senior Katy Rasor (Grove City, OH) led the Panthers for the third time this year with 13 points, going 4-of-8 overall and 3-of-4 on three-pointers. Stuckey added 12 points for her fourth straight outing in double figures and extended her free throw streak to 19 straight with a 4-of-4 effort at the line. Classmate Christina Pentaudi (Dayton, OH) finished with eight points and team-high six rebounds off the bench.

ODU remains in the Upper Peninsula this Saturday as the Panthers travel to Northern Michigan for the first time for 1 p.m. start.
