The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team stepped out of conference play on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming form AMC foe Cedarville University to Panther Courts. ODU completed the sweep of doubles and took 4-of-6 singles courts for the 7-2 regional win.
Strong doubles play has continued to lead to solid results for the Panthers this fall and Tuesday was no difference. Looking sharp at #1 doubles, Sofia Espana-Perez (So./Mexico City, Mexico) and Aline Mariano (Jr./Sao Paulo, Brazil) dominated winning 8-0. On court two, Anita Girizd (Fr./Ada, Serbia) and Krista Derry (Jr./Baltimore, OH) jumped out to an early 6-3 lead and held on for a close 8-5 win. On court three, an early lead for Mari Monaco (Sr./Port Clinton, OH) and Hanna Ukhal (Jr./Uzhgorod, Ukraine) was short lived as Cedarville battled back, only to see ODU claim a 9-8 (3) win.
In singles play, Espana-Perez and Mariano continued their strong play winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-2. On court three, Girizd won a tough 7-6 (5) first set and then dominated set #2, 6-0. Derry continues to earn strong results on court four, winning 6-2, 6-2.
