COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team won their home opener in dramatic fashion on Wednesday evening at Panther Field, defeating the Alderson-Broaddus (W.V.) Battlers 1-0, in the final minute of action.
After almost 90 minutes of scoreless play, sophomore Jennifer Holton (Johnstown, OH) finally broke through for the Panthers, cutting up the middle and drilling a Tiffany Schneid (Sr./Columbus, OH) pass into the upper left corner of the net.
ODU controlled much of the tempo throughout the game, outshooting the Battlers 20-2, but a strong goalkeeping effort by Kate Laird kept the score even until the final seconds.
The Panthers finished with an 11-2 advantage on corners and 13-1 advantage on shots on goal. With the victory, ODU improves to 2-0-0 on the young season, while Alderson-Broaddus falls to 0-2-1.
ODU returns to action this weekend as they travel to Michigan to begin GLIAC play with games at Michigan Tech at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 and Northern Michigan at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12. Alderson-Broaddus returns home to for a four-game homestand, hosting Notre Dame College on Saturday, Sept. 11.
