MENTOR, Ohio – After rain halted their Friday afternoon match versus Ashland where the Panthers led 2-1after doubles play; women's tennis hit the road on Saturday afternoon to post a convincing 9-0 win versus fellow GLIAC newcomer Lake Erie College.
Lake Erie defaulted #6 singles and #3 doubles, giving Ohio Dominican a 2-0 start to the match. In doubles play the #1 team of Ruchika Alahakoon (Sr./Colombo, Sri Lanka; pictured) and Nathalia Braga (So./Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) hung on to win a tight match, 8-6. The #2 doubles team of Mari Monaco (Jr./Port Clinton, OH) and Krista Derry (So./Baltimore, OH) posted an 8-0 win and remain unbeaten thus far on the season.
ODU continued their strong play in singles with all five courts winning in straight sets. Singles court winners for the Panthers include #1 singles Alahakoon 6-2, 6-1; Aline Mariano (So./Sao Paulo, Brazil) at #2 singles, 6-1, 6-0; Derry on court three, 6-0, 6-0; freshman Kelsi Klein (Pickerington, OH) at #4 singles, 6-0, 6-0 as well as April Zaborsky (So./Dublin, OH) finishing with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court five.
Ohio Dominican will return to GLIAC play on Tuesday, Sept. 28 to finish their match versus Ashland University at Panther Courts. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
