Panthers Overcome Early Deficit; Move Into First Place Tie

FINDLAY, Ohio – After scoring five goals through their first seven games, the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team erupted for three second half goals for a come-from-behind 3-1 road victory against GLIAC South Division leader, Findlay, on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers found themselves in an uncommon position, trailing for the first time entering the halftime break after allowing just their third goal of the year as Brianne Milne connected on a header off a Sara Jones corner kick.

After a halftime adjustment, ODU turned up the offensive pressure. Junior defender Slone Fleak (Sunbury, OH;pictured) recorded her first collegiate score off a deflection with 25:51 left in the game, tying the score at 1-1.

Just over a minute later, Jennifer Holton (So./Johnstown, OH) beat the goalkeeper top left with a header of her own off an Anna Cameron (Sr./Calgary, AB) pass for her team leading second score of the year.

The Panthers continued the momentum and at the 68:17 mark, junior Sierra Patterson (Brecksville, OH) found fellow Brecksville Bee, Olivia Scalzitti (Fr./Brecksville, OH), who connected on her first collegiate score, resulting in the final tally of 3-1.

Freshman goalkeeper Brooke Klopschinski (Alta Loma, CA) picked up her second win of the season after posting five saves and allowing just the one goal.

With her team leading third assist and second in as many games, Patterson moved into sole possession of the ODU all-time mark for career assists with 20.

"I am really proud of the team. Findlay gave us some issues in the first half, but we really stepped up in the second," remarked head coach Jonathan Meade. "It feels good to finally put up multiple goals in a game."

ODU improves to 5-1-2 and with a 3-1-2 mark in the GLIAC, moves into a first place tie with Findlay, who drops to 4-2-2 and 4-2 in the conference.

The Panthers make their second trip to Michigan next weekend to continue GLIAC play, taking on Ferris State at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, before heading to defending national champion, Grand Valley State, on Sunday, Oct. 3 for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Lakers. Findlay returns to action Oct. 3 as they travel to Tiffin for a noon matchup.
