Panthers Down Greyhounds in Season Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team started the 2010 season off on the right foot Thursday evening, defeating the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds 1-0 at Key Stadium in Indianapolis.

Junior Kaylin Hunsaker (Springboro, OH) broke a scoreless draw in the 79th minute, splitting two Greyhound defenders and connecting on a pass up the middle from Sierra Patterson (Jr./Brecksville, OH).

Hunsaker's third career goal proved to be the difference as the Panther defense shut down any possible Indianapolis scoring chances the rest of the way.

For the game, ODU allowed only five shots, one shot on goal and posted a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.

"I am proud of the girls," remarked head coach Jonathan Meade. "They played hard and kept plugging away until we scored. We still have a lot to work on, but we are excited to get our first win as a Division II program out of the way. We will take a couple days to enjoy it and then get back at things on Monday."

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. when they host Alderson-Broaddus College (W.V.) in their home opener at Panther Field. The Greyhounds take to the road on Sunday for a noon matchup with Great Lakes Valley Conference foe, Missouri-St. Louis.
