Panthers Ground Falcons; Capture 2nd Straight Home Sweep

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team hosted the Falcons of Notre Dame College in non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Panther Field. The Panthers recorded a 5-4 walk-off win in game one and squeezed out a 1-0 victory in the nightcap over their former AMC foe. With the wins, ODU captured its second straight home sweep and extended its current home win streak to five games.

The Falcons got the scoring going in game one with a run in the first. The Panthers would answer and take a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning where it would stay until the top of the sixth. The Falcons rallied, this time sending a pair across, knotting the score at 4-4 and setting the table for the Panthers late game-heroics. In the bottom of the seventh and a runner in scoring position, Samantha Wolfe (Jr./Columbus, OH; pictured) smacked a double to right center field to give the Panthers the 5-4 walk-off win.

Shane Etter (Jr./Massillon, OH) picked up her third win of the year after coming on in the fifth inning. Etter would hold the Falcons at bay as she allowed no runs on no hits in her two innings of relief action.

Along with driving in the game-winning RBI, Wolfe finished the opener 3-for-4 at the plate. Brooke McCartney (Fr./Salem, OH) drove in two runs and Kylee Crislip (So./Louisville, OH) added another after going 2-for-3 in the victory.

Game two featured a classic pitcher's duel. Junior starter Maria Staton (New Bremen, OH) collected her 15th win of the season from the circle after allowing just four hits in the complete game shutout. Notre Dame starter Ashley Harbarger allowed just two Panther hits, but an unearned run in the bottom of the second gave ODU all they would need as they grabbed the 1-0 decision.

Cassandra Weitz (Jr./Dayton, OH) drove in Crislip for the game's only run. Crislip would reach in the second on a fielding error and eventually score on Weitz single through the right side.

ODU will conclude their current homestand on Saturday, April 24th as they host former AMC foe, Urbana University, in their annual senior day doubleheader. First pitch of game one between the Panthers and Blue Knights is scheduled for 1 p.m.
