Panthers Drop GLIAC Home Opener, 72-58, to No. 15 Michigan Tech

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team could not find the upset magic Thursday evening as they dropped their third straight, falling to No. 15 Michigan Tech, 72-58, in their GLIAC home-opener at Alumni Hall.

The Panthers grabbed an early 4-0 lead thanks to baskets by Tracy Snider (Jr./Lancaster, OH) and Summer Hale (Sr./Galena, OH) in the first two minutes of the game, but three lead changes over the next 4:03 saw the Huskies grab a 10-9 lead with 13:47 remaining in the half.

Michigan Tech extended the lead the 29-14 with just under six to play as ODU missed 11 of their next 13 shots. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Abby Glover (Jr./Centerville, OH) and Katy Rasor (Jr./Grove City, OH) trimmed the deficit to nine before three consecutive threes by the Huskies allowed them to open up their largest lead of the half at 38-22 with 2:24 on the clock.

In the second half, the Panthers quickly cut their 40-24 halftime deficit to eight, rattling off the first eight points behind 6-of-6 free throw shooting and a layup by Rasor at the 16:29 mark.

ODU was able to get within seven on three different occasions the rest of the way as they shot 12-of-25 (48 percent) and outscored the Huskies 34-32, but the halftime deficit and 9-of-10 free throw shooting by Michigan Tech down the stretch proved too much to overcome as the Panthers lost at home for just the 10th time in the last five seasons.

The Huskies, paced Lucy Dernovsek's game-highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds, improved to 5-1 and 2-0 in the GLIAC. Sam Hoyt added 12 and Lindsey Lindstrom 11.

Meredith Fox (Jr./Springboro, OH) led the Panthers with a season-high 14 points. Hale reached double figures for the fifth time this season with 11 and Snider chipped in with 12.

ODU steps out of conference on Saturday, December 11 as they host former AMC foe Malone at 2 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
