Second Half Comeback Falls Short as ODU Falls to Ferris State, 70-64

Box Score

Big Rapids, Mich. - Trailing by 13 points to Ferris State with just over six minutes remaining, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team rallied to pull within four, but it was too little, too late as the Panthers could not grab their first conference win, falling 70-64 Saturday evening at Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs (4-2, 1-1 GLIAC) jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead just under two minutes into the game, but the Panthers rattled off seven of the game's next eight points, including a 3-point play by Abby Glover (Jr./Centerville, OH) that gave them their first lead at 9-8 at the 14:57 mark.

Cold shooting by ODU, particularly behind the arc as they missed on their first 10 attempts, allowed Ferris State to recapture the lead and extend it to the largest of the half at 35-26 with 2:05 remaining. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Katy Rasor (Jr./Grove City, OH) and Rachel Billing (Jr./Anna, OH) cut the Panthers halftime deficit to 35-32.

Melissa Hersey (Sr./West Chester) appeared to tie the game with a 3-pointer that was ruled good as time expired, but after a meeting of several minutes, the officials determined she in fact did not get the shot off in time.

ODU wasted little time to start the second, going on a 6-2 run, capped off a Tracy Snider (Jr./Lancaster, OH) 3-pointer to grab a 38-37 lead just over three minutes into the stanza.

After a jumper by Summer Hale (Sr./Galena, OH) put the Panthers up 40-39 at the 16:14 mark, the Bulldogs used their size advantage to go on a 23-9 run and grab their largest lead of the game at 62-49 with 6:30 left to play.

Rasor's second three of the half brought ODU to within four, 65-61 with 1:14 remaining, but 5-of-6 free throw shooting by FSU over the final 30 seconds preserved the victory. Snider connected on a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded for the final tally.

Tiara Adams finished with game highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds for Ferris State, while Andrea Clancy and Katy Fox added 11 and 10, respectively.

Hale led four Panthers in double-figures with 15 points and grabbing nine boards. Rasor finished with 12, while Snider and Billing each chipped in with 10. Billing matched her career high going a perfect 3-of-3 from long range.

ODU (1-4, 0-2 GLIAC) returns home to Alumni Hall to continue GLIAC play as they host Michigan Tech (4-1, 1-0 GLIAC) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9 in the second game of an ODU basketball doubleheader.
