The Panthers drove deep into Eagle territory midway through the second period, but were stopped on fourth and goal from Ashland's three. However, the defense forced a three and out, and on the ensuing punt, Nate Weeks came through the left side of the line to block the punt through the back of the end zone for a safety.
That cut ODU's deficit to 14-2 with 3:47 to go before halftime, and the Panthers took over on their 40 after the free kick. But quarterback Billy Griffin was intercepted on the first play, and Ashland drove 67 yards before halftime for a touchdown to make it 21-2.

After Noffsinger's 13 yard run, Scott capped the drive with his first TD of the day to make it 31-8.
Trailing 44-8 in the fourth quarter, Noffsinger slipped several would-be tacklers and kept his balance in the open field after colliding with Purcell for his 55 yard gain before being brought down at Ashland's three.
