COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team secured their fourth straight GLIAC win and fifth consecutive victory on Saturday morning with a 7-2 win over visiting Lake Superior State University at Panther Courts. The Panthers swept the doubles courts and carried positive momentum into singles play for the conference win.
In doubles play, the Panthers jumped in front early and capatalized, taking 3-of-3 doubles courts. Sofia Espana-Perez (Fr./Mexico City, Mexico; pictured) and Aline Mariano (So./Sao Paulo, Brazil) looked much better, earning an 8-1 decision on court one, while Ruchika Alahakoon (Sr./Colombo, Sri Lanka) and Nathalia Braga (So./Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) hung on for a tough 9-7 win on court two. On court three, Mari Monaco (Jr./Port Clinton, OH) and Krista Derry (So./Baltimore, OH) remained unbeaten as they earned an 8-3 win.In singles action, ODU quickly took two singles courts to earn the win, eventually winning 4-of-6 singles courts. Earning singles points for the Panthers was Espana-Perez on court one, 6-1, 6-3; Alahakoon on court two, 6-3, 6-3; and Derry on court four, 6-0, 6-1. Mariano closed out the scoring for ODU with a win at #5 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
ODU will return to action on Friday, Sept. 24th as they welcome Ashland University to Panther Courts for a GLIAC match against the Eagles. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
