Grand Valley State Disposes of Panthers

ALLENDALE, Michigan – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team could not carry over the momentum from Friday's victory at Ferris State, falling 6-0 to Grand Valley State on Sunday afternoon, snapping their unbeaten streak at five.

The Lakers demonstrated why they are the Division II defending national champion and deserving of their current No. 6 ranking, jumping on the Panthers early with two goals in less than a five minute stretch.

Kayla Addison got the scoring going at the 17:09 mark with a strike to the upper left 90 from 10 yards out for her sixth goal of the season. Erin Mruz followed that with a shot to the upper shelf from two yards out in the 22nd minute.

ODU could only muster two shots in the first half as they entered the break in a 2-0 deficit.

GVSU continued to press the Panther defense and just over two minutes into the second, Mruz recorded her second score off a pass from the right side to the front of the net.

The Lakers (9-1-1; 6-1-1 GLIAC) tacked on two more goals as Erin Hilbert connected in the 65th minute and Erika Pitroff scored in the 75th.

An own goal by ODU with under two to play resulted in the final tally.

Jennifer Holton (So./Johnstown, OH) led the Panthers with two shots on goal in 85 minutes of action.

ODU (6-2-2; 4-2-2 GLIAC) steps out of conference play for two road games, taking on former AMC foe, Urbana at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, before heading to Mercyhurst (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, Oct. 10.
