COLUMBUS, Ohio - Looking to rebound from a disappointing loss to Lake Erie last weekend and gain some momentum heading into their final weekend of competition, the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team downed GLIAC North Division foe, Saginaw Valley State, 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Panther Field.
Despite the chilly weather, the teams played an evenly matched scoreless first half with ODU outshooting the Cardinals 5-2.
Play began to heat up after the intermission, especially for the Panthers who rattled off 17 shots in the period, but none bigger than Christen Adams' (Fr./Sylvania, OH) strike in the 72nd minute. Adams took a pass from fellow classmate Olivia Scalzitti (Brecksville, OH) in the box and nailed her first collegiate score straight on to the lower left ninety from about 12 yards away. Scalzitti's assist was also the first of her career.
After the score, ODU stepped up defensively, holding SVSU to just two shots the rest of the way.
Senior goalkeeper Aimee Simonet (New Albany, OH) posted five saves in the decision to run her record to 8-4-3. With the shutout, Simonet ties the ODU all-time goalkeeping mark for shutouts in a season at eight with one game remaining.
With their 10th win of the year, the Panthers have reached double digit wins in each of the past four seasons. ODU (10-4-3) will conclude their season on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. as they host Northwood (Mich.) in their annual Senior Day game.
