ASHLAND, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team kept their GLIAC title hopes intact with a solid 3-0 road victory over Ashland at Ferguson Field on Friday afternoon.
After struggling to get their offense going in their two home games last weekend, the Panthers came out firing to start the game, outshooting the Eagles 8-0 over the first 25 minutes. With just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Jennifer Holton (So./Johnstown, OH) ripped a low shot from 15 yards out off a Sierra Patterson (Jr./Brecksville, OH) cross to give ODU the 1-0 lead.
The Panthers took the lead into the break, finishing with a 9-2 advantage on shots and 3-1 on corners.
ODU kept up their offensive intensity and just 2:41 minutes into the second, Anna Cameron (Sr./Calgary, AB) connected on her second goal of the year, an arcing shot into the left side of the net from about 24 yards away.
Less than two minutes later, Holton recorded her second score of the game, lofting a shot 12 yards out from Marie Fudacz (Jr./Toledo, OH) into the left side of the goal. She is the second Panther this season to tally a multi-goal game.
The Panthers defense held the Eagles in check the rest of the way, allowing just six shots and one shot on goal.
Goalkeeper Aimee Simonet (Sr./New Albany, OH) turned aside two shots as she improved to 7-3-3 on the year. Her seven wins have all come via a shutout.
With the win ODU (9-3-3; 5-3-3 GLIAC) moves into second place for the time being in the GLIAC South Division, one point behind leader Tiffin and two points ahead of third place Findlay. The Dragons and Oilers are both in action later today against the top two teams in the North Division.
Check back here later today for GLIAC results.
The Panthers conclude the road portion of their schedule at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24 as they take on the Storm of Lake Erie.
