Eagles Send Panthers Home with non-conference Loss
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican University women's tennis team traveled to Ashland, Ohio on Tuesday afternoon to play NCAA D2 opponent Ashland University. In the two schools first ever match-up on the tennis court, the Eagles claimed the convincing 8-1 win over the visiting Panthers.
The Panthers battled in the doubles matches against a good Eagles team. The #1 doubles team of Kate Rodgers (Milford, OH) and Katie Evans (Hilliard, OH) took an early 2-1 lead, only to see the Eagles rally back for the 8-2 decision. At #3 doubles, Amanda Hollenbaugh (Reynoldsburg, OH) and Ruchika Alahakoon (Colombo, Sri Lanka) earned the only point on the day as they claimed an 8-5 win.
In singles play, the Eagles staked claim to all six courts as they earned the non-conference win. Alahakoon played a solid second set at #3 singles, losing 6-0, 7-5. Katie Strancar (Canton, OH) also played well, dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision at #5 singles.
The Panthers will return to the courts on Friday, April 3rd as they travel to Marion, Indiana to play NAIA #16 Indiana Wesleyan University. The match is set for 4 p.m.
