Panthers Come up Short in Loss to Fighting Scots

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team traveled to Vienna, West Virginia on Tuesday evening looking to continue their current two game win streak, but were unable to avoid losing 55-54 to the NCAA Division II foe Ohio Valley University.

The Panthers battled their way to a six point lead midway through the first half, but the half remained close as the Fighting Scots closed the gap to cut the Panther lead to three points, 25-22, just before the break.

Ohio Valley carried that momentum into the second half as they took a slim 31-30 lead with 17 minutes remaining. ODU answered with 3-pointer from Tracy Snider (So./Lancaster, OH) to regain the lead but it was short lived as the host Scots built a six point lead with under 10 minutes to play. The Panthers battled back to tie the game in the closing minutes and took a 54-53 lead with under minute remaining on a 3-point basket from Kirsten Ruen (Sr./Columbus Grove, OH). Ohio Valley responded, dashing ODU's hopes of the road win with a score in the final 20 seconds to steal the win, their second of the season.

Snider lead Ohio Dominican in scoring, finishing with a team high 23 points. Kirsten Ruen added 18 point on 4-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.

Kendra Benedict led the Fighting Scots with a team high 23 points in 32 minutes of action.

The Panthers look to respond with another tough road match-up on Saturday, December 12th when they will travel to Huntington, Indiana to play the Foresters of Huntington University. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
