COLUMBUS , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican University men's soccer team dropped their first American Mideast game of the season and second straight overall to Notre Dame College, 3-1 at Panther Field. The Panthers and Falcons were knotted at 1-1 at the end of the first half, but two second half goals proved to be enough as Notre Dame left with the win.
In a physical opening half, ODU and NDC came out with plenty of passion early as both teams created early scoring opportunities. ODU's Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg, OH) scored the games first goal in the 13th minute on an assist from senior Joey Held (Pataskala, OH) to give the hosts the earl lead. Less than a minute later, the Falcons David Mason connected on a cross from Joshua Lipka to even up the score at one. The game remained tied heading into the halftime break.
In the early minutes of the second half, the Falcons gave the visitor their first lead of the game as George Kephart scored on a turnover inside the penalty box. The Panthers created scoring chances for much of the next 20 minutes but were turned away each time by the Notre Dame goalkeeper Michael Stern. Notre Dame gave themselves the breathing room they needed in the 86th minute when Steven Kane scored off a rebound save to give the Falcons the later 3-1 lead. The two goals proved to be enough as the Falcons escaped with the conference win.
Senior goal tender Eric Pfeifer (Westerville, OH) recorded four saves in the AMC loss.
The Panthers, now 3-3-1 (1-1), will return to action on Tuesday, September 30th as they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to battle Heidelberg College in a non-conference match-up. Kick-off is set to begin at 7 p.m.
