PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Completing a four-game road swing, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (2-2, 1-1 G-MAC) football team faced the Lake Erie Storm (2-2, 0-2) on Saturday (Sept. 26) night in the second conference contest of the season.
A heavy rushing attack allowed the Panthers to win their 16
th straight game over the Storm, 27-19.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Carson Parker finished with a stat line of 15-of-29 passes for 150 yards with one passing touchdown. On the ground, Parker rushed for 21 yards and tallied two touchdowns on the ground.
- Nathan Webster notched his first career 100-yard game of his career with 125 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown.
- Roderick Love added a career-best 61 yards rushing.
- Angelo Harper Jr. was the top receiver with six catches for 47 yards, a career-high for Harper in catches. Conner Campbell had five catches (a career-best) and 33 yards. Luke Hess hauled in the lone touchdown catch as a part of his four catches for 70 yards.
- Gabe Pence was the lone Panther with double-digit tackles as he had 12 tackles – his second straight game with 10+ tackles.
- Elijah Lambert, Amare Gordon and Harlee Hanna all had seven tackles. Lambert notched the lone sack and added two tackles for loss. Hanna picked off his first career interception.
- Mason Welsch tied Lambert with two tackles for loss.
- Treyton Schroeder grabbed his third interception in the last two weeks.
- The Panthers won the total offense category 409-379 behind 259 yards rushing and 150 yards passing. Lake Erie rushed for 100 yards and passed for 279.
- ODU was four-of-11 on third down but converted all three fourth-down tries.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ohio Dominican opened the game with a 14-play, 72-yard drive that led to a touchdown. After Parker converted a fourth-and-one, Webster scored three plays later on a ten-yard touchdown run. ODU led 6-0 with 10:18 left in the first quarter after the PAT was no good by Ryan Elliot.
- The quarter expired with the Panthers up 6-0. Lake Erie started the second quarter with the ball and pushed to the red zone on their first second quarter drive. A 37-yard field goal was missed as the Panthers led 6-0 still four minutes into the period.
- On ODU's second drive of the quarter, two key plays led to another Panther score. On a fourth-and-seven from their own 24, ODU went for a fake punt and Yon German rushed for 30 yards and a first down. ODU faced fourth down later in the drive. Mekhi Jenkins converted a fourth-and-one with three yards. Three plays later, Parker plunged into the end zone with an one-yard touchdown. The two-point try was no good as the Panthers pushed the lead to 12-0 with 2:47 left before halftime.
- Lake Erie got a score as the first half came to a close. A one-yard touchdown run trimmed the Panthers lead to 12-7 at the half.
- The Storm got a five-yard touchdown pass on their first drive of the second half, putting them ahead 13-12 with 8:58 to go in the third.
- After ODU came up empty on their first drive, Schroeder ended the next Lake Erie drive with a pick on the first play.
- The pick turned into points for the Panthers. Eight plays later, Parker ran into the end zone from 11 yards away as the Panthers regained the lead at 19-13 with four minutes left in the third quarter.
- Ohio Dominican ended the third quarter with the ball and the lead, up 19-13.
- Both teams traded interceptions to start the fourth quarter. Parker was intercepted in the end zone and then Hanna got the ball back with his interception three plays after.
- ODU put the lead to two scores with six minutes to go. A nine-play, 68-yard drive ended with Parker finding Hess on a wide-open 25-yard touchdown pass. A two-point try from Parker to Zack Stevens pushed the lead to 27-14 with 6:24 left.
- Lake Erie answered back with another one-yard touchdown run with 2:59 left in the game. With a chance to make it 27-20, Quinten Robinson blocked the extra point and Sean Westmoreland recovered the loose ball. The ensuing onside kick went to the Panthers as they ran out the clock with a 27-19 win.
