COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican Panthers (19-10) returned to the postseason for the first time in six years, hosting the Findlay Oilers (18-11) on Tuesday (March 3) night.
The postseason return saw the Panthers clinch the #4 seed and host a playoff game for the first time ever. The Oilers spoiled the fun with a 76-64 win over the Panthers.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Derek Goodman finished with a team-high 19 points - his 23rd game in double-figures and 13th time as the leading scorer. He made six field goals with four threes (of nine attempts) and three free throws. Goodman grabbed six rebounds and had two assists.
- Carson Seemann notched his ninth game in double-digit scoring with 11 points. He was four-of-nine shooting with one three pointer and two free throws.
- Zac Kimball was a perfect five-of-five shooting for ten points with three rebounds.
- Caleb Conard combined two field goals and two free thorws for six points wih five rebounds.
- Elijah Hinton scored eight points on four-of-four at the free throw line and making both of his field goal tries. He led the Panthers with seven rebounds.
- Kenny Scott gave ODU eight points and four assists off the bench.
- Ohio Dominican finished with a 43.1% field goal percentage (22-51), a 25.0% (6-24) mark from three and 73.7% at the free throw line (14-19).
- Findlay had a 55.6% (30-54) field goal percentage with shooting 31.6% (6-19) from deep and 66.7% (10-15) at the stripe.
- ODU held the edge in both rebounding categories - offensive (12-6) and defensive (21-20) for a 33-26 advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- ODU tied the game at 2-2 as Findlay followed with a 7-0 run to lead 9-2 two minutes into the game.
- The Panthers slimmed the lead down to four points at 9-5 and again at 11-7. After a three-point play, Findlay led 14-7 after the under-16 media timeout.
- Scott scored six straight points on an 8-0 Panther run, taking a 15-14 lead with 14:16 to go in the first half.
- Conard strung together six points during an ODU run of 11-6 as they led 26-20 with 9:35 left. The Panthers later led 28-22, the second of the six-point leads (the largest of the night for ODU).
- Findlay got the lead back to even at 28-28 and 31-31 before Goodman allowed ODU to have a pair of five point leads in the final two minutes (36-31 and 39-34).
- Ohio Dominican was holding onto a 39-36 lead at halftime.
- The lead changed hands four times in the first four minutes of the second half.
- Ohio Dominican led 45-42 on a Seemann layup before a 15-3 Findlay spurt gave the Oilers a 57-48 lead at the under-12 media timeout.
- The Panthers pulled within five points three different times but could not close the gap further. Findlay led by double-digits in the final two minutes, winning 76-64.
