HILLSDALE, Mich. - In the first meeting of two within two weeks, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (15-8, 9-6) men's basketball team battled the Hillsdale Chargers (9-13, 6-8) on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon.
Hillsdale made it interesting in the second half but ODU left Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena with a 76-71 win - the first win for the Panthers in that arena.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Derek Goodman and Elijah Hinton came off the bench and led the Panthers with 16 points each.
- Goodman was six-of-ten shooting with two threes and two free throws to go with three assists and four rebounds.
- Hinton was efficient with five-of-six shooting, making both three point tries and four-of-five at the free throw line. He also led with eight rebounds.
- Caleb Conard added 11 points and six rebounds with four field goals, one three pointer and two free throws.
- Carson Seemann finished with two points, three rebounds, two steals and a block.
- Terrance Broughton and Kenny Scott each scored nine points in a starting effort.
- Scott was three-of-three at the stripe with four boards, two assists and two steals.
- Logan Ryan nailed four of his five free throws in a seven point day, making one three.
- Ohio Dominican won all three shooting categories: 44.6% (25-56) from the field, 44.4% (8-18) from three and 72.0% (18-25) from the free throw line.
- The Chargers finished with a 43.1% (25-58) field goal percentage, 38.1% (8-21) from three and 68.4% (13-19) at the stripe.
- ODU outrebounded Hillsdale 36-34 while leading in assists (11-10) and steals (6-4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hillsdale started with a 3-0 lead and led 5-2 at the under-16 media timeout.
- Back-to-back threes from Goodman and Kyler Krull combined with three free throws from Ryan fueled an 8-0 run as ODU led 11-5 with 12 minutes left in the half.
- After Hillsdale got the deficit down to 19-13, a 7-0 Panther run opened a 26-13 lead with 4:49 to go before the half.
- The lead stayed above double-digits for the remainder of the half and led by as many as 18 (36-18). The lead stood at 38-23 at the halftime break.
- ODU led by at least 20 five times in the first six minutes of the half. The largest lead was 55-32 with 13:57 left on a Goodman layup.
- Over 10 minutes of action, Hillsdale outscored Ohio Dominican 34-10 - including a 12-0 run as the Chargers took a 66-65 lead with 3:44 left on a three by Cole McWhinnie.
- Broughton immediately answered with a driving layup and Hinton followed with a three pointer as a 5-0 run regained ODU a 70-66 lead.
- A three for Hillsdale trimmed the lead to 70-69 but four free throws by Hinton and Scott along with a Goodman layup sealed the win for the Panthers 76-71.

- Ohio Dominican will host Findlay next Saturday (Feb. 14) to finish the season series. Tipoff will be at 3:00 PM from Alumni Hall on Valentine's Day.
