COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Faculty/Staff Apprecation Night and Academic Excellence Night (Feb. 5), the Ohio Dominican Panthers (14-8, 8-6) rely on a strong second half performance to defeat the Cedarville Yellow Jackets (9-12, 4-9) in a high scoring battle, 91-87.

Elijah Hinton and
Derek Goodman led the scoring for the Panthers with 24 and 22 points respectively while shooting a combined 18-of-31 (58.0%) from the field. The Panthers took advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line, shooting 18-of-21 (85.7%). Defensively, Ohio Dominican made a statement recording ten steals, with
Terrance Broughton collecting three of his own.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
For much of the first half, ODU and Cedarville traded baskets as ODU led 15-13 with 12:37 left in the first half. At the end of the first half, the Yellow Jackets would go on a 6-to-2 scoring run to end the first half 49-43 in their favor. As the second half started, ODU closes the gap, eventually taking the lead 57-56 with 14:44 left in the period. From then on, ODU goes on a dominate run to stretch the lead to 71-59, forcing a Cedarville timeout with 8:30 left in the second half. However, Cedarville would bounce back with a run of their own, tying the game at 75 at the four-minute timeout. Great free throw shooting in the final stretch allowed the Panthers to close out on a 91-87 victory.
