COLUMBUS, OH - To close out a three-game home stint, the (8–11) Ohio Dominican women's basketball team welcomed the (9–10) Tiffin Dragons to Alumni Hall in Columbus on senior night, honoring five special players:
Macy Chapman,
Meg Saffell,
Mackenzie Hurd,
Sarah Ochs and
Madelyn Fearon. The Panthers slayed the Dragons on their home court, 71-61.
Top Performers
Off the bench, Jazmyn Wheeler led the Panthers for the first time this season, scoring 16 points in 23 minutes of action while adding eight rebounds and one block. Senior Macy Chapman also had a strong performance, finishing with 15 points, two rebounds, three assists and four steals. Freshman Eve Schwemley rounded out the top three scorers, contributing 11 points in 19 minutes while shooting an efficient 4-for-6 from the field.
Game Breakdown
In the opening quarter, the Black and Gold shot 35.3% from the field, knocking down six of 17 attempts to score 13 points. ODU's defense held Tiffin to 33.3% shooting and just 10 points in the quarter. The Panthers found their rhythm in the second quarter, shooting 53.3% from the field (8-for-15) compared to the Dragons' 25% shooting. Tiffin also shot 25% from beyond the arc and 66% from the free throw line. Similar to the first quarter, ODU outscored TU, this time 18–14, to take a 31–24 lead into the locker room.
Coming out of halftime, Tiffin opened the second half with a 5–0 run and put together its best offensive quarter of the game, shooting 61.5% from the field (8-for-13). Ohio Dominican shot 43.8% (7-for-16) in the quarter and went 2-for-6 from beyond the arc. Despite Tiffin's sharp shooting, the Panthers matched them point for point, as both teams scored 19 in the quarter, sending ODU into the fourth with a 50–43 advantage.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Panthers when it mattered most. Ohio Dominican held Tiffin to 42.1% shooting while posting its best offensive quarter of the night, shooting 58.3% from the field. ODU was perfect from three-point range (4-for-4) and went 3-for-4 from the free throw line. The Panthers outscored the Dragons 21–18 in the final quarter to secure their eighth win of the season and third conference victory.
