Northwood Pulls Ahead Early, Tops Panthers 75-67

COLUMBUS, OH - On a cold Saturday in Columbus, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team continued its homestand, welcoming the Northwood Timberwolves to Alumni Hall. Despite a resilient second-half comeback, the Panthers ultimately fell to the Timberwolves, 75-67.

Top Performers

For the second straight game, Jenna Shackleford led the Panthers with 14 points and five rebounds, shooting an efficient 4-of-8 from the field. Senior Macy Chapman matched Shackleford with 14 points of her own, adding four rebounds and three steals. Madelyn Fearon rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points, while Jazmyn Wheeler provided a spark off the bench with 10.

Game Breakdown

Northwood opened the game on a dominant 9-0 run. The Panthers struggled to find their rhythm early, shooting just 13.3% from the field in the opening frame. In contrast, the Timberwolves shot 50% and knocked down two triples to take a 21-6 lead after ten minutes.

The offensive struggles continued into the second quarter for ODU. While the Panthers improved at the charity stripe, Northwood's hot shooting persisted. The Timberwolves headed into the locker room with a commanding 43-19 lead, outscoring ODU 24-12 in the paint and capitalizing on turnovers to keep the momentum firmly in their favor.

Ohio Dominican found its spark in the third quarter, opening the half with six quick points. They began to outpace Northwood, shooting 47.4% from the floor and 75% from the free-throw line. However, the Timberwolves' 57.1% shooting in the quarter allowed them to maintain a 63-42 cushion heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter showcased the Panthers' true grit. ODU dominated the period 25-12, posting a game-high 53% shooting clip and hitting 9-of-12 free throws. While the late surge closed the gap to just eight points, time ran out on the comeback, and Northwood secured the conference victory.
