Volleyball Sweeps Pitt-Johnstown to Close Non-Conference Play

FROSTBURG, MD - The Ohio Dominican volleyball team wrapped up non-conference play in Frostburg, Maryland, with a sweep of Pitt-Johnstown today. This win came after splitting a pair of matches yesterday—defeating Shippensburg in five sets and falling in four sets to host Frostburg State.

In their only match today, the Panthers swept the Mountain Cats in straight sets (25-23, 25-20, 28-26), earning their fourth win of the season.

Senior Jenna Peters once again led the way for ODU, tallying 16 kills and two aces. Ashley Aselage followed with 10 kills and five strong blocks, while Grace Zinchuk contributed a team-high six blocks. Christen Tarter, starting at libero, added 16 digs, four assists, and an ace. Setter Gabrielle Kirker paced the offense with 22 assists, and freshman Logan Rubel chipped in with six kills and 12 digs.

The opening set was tightly contested, with both teams battling to a 14-14 tie midway through. Key kills from Peters helped push the Panthers to a 24-22 lead before Aselage closed it out with a kill for the 25-23 win.

In the second set, Pitt-Johnstown came out strong, taking an 11-7 lead behind solid attacking from Brooke Pelloni. However, a string of attacking errors by the Mountain Cats allowed the Panthers to rally. ODU pulled ahead 24-18 and sealed the set with a five-point margin.

The third set was another back-and-forth battle, with the teams tied at 11-11 mid-set. Once again, clutch plays from Aselage and Peters allowed the Panthers to edge out the set 28-26 and complete the sweep.

With the victory, Ohio Dominican improves to 4-2 on the season as they shift their focus to conference play.
