SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team opened their road schedule with a non-conference matchup against the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars. The Black and Gold fell to UIS, 2-0, marking their second loss of the season and giving UIS their first win of the year.
UIS controlled much of the game offensively, outshooting ODU 12-5, with nine shots on goal compared to the Panthers' three. The Prairie Stars also led in corner kick opportunities, earning six to ODU's two.
The match was physical throughout, with UIS committing 12 fouls and receiving two yellow cards, while ODU recorded four fouls and one yellow card.
Goalkeeper Ella Schnitzer recorded seven saves in her third appearance this season. After a scoreless first half, UIS broke through early in the second half with a penalty kick goal by McKenna Gahagan in the 47th minute. Maddie Festerling added a second goal in the 62nd minute, sealing the victory for the Prairie Stars.
