COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Dominican softball team returned to action at Panther Field this afternoon, hosting the Walsh Cavaliers for a GMAC doubleheader. After two games, ODU split with Walsh, winning the first game 4-1 but falling 2-1 in the second.Â
Game One (W, 4-1)
Marlee Jacobs started in the circle for the first game, earning her 7th win of the season. She pitched all seven innings, allowing just five hits and one run, with two walks and five strikeouts on 97 pitches. Offensively, the Panthers totaled eight hits and four runs, along with two walks in 22 at-bats. Senior Emily Holland led the way with three hits and two RBIs, followed by Addie Triplett, who scored two runs and added two hits.Â
How It Happened
ODU took the lead in the second inning when Emily Holland singled to right field, driving in Addie Triplett for the first run. In the fourth inning, Holland delivered another single to right field, bringing Triplett home again for the Panthers' second run.Â
Walsh responded in the fifth inning with an unearned run, scoring on an error after a single to right field. However, ODU secured insurance runs in the same inning. Freshman Avery Mueller flied out to right field, bringing in Liana Morreale for an RBI, and Kendrick Sterling doubled to right-center, scoring Kaleigh Golden for the fourth and final run. With strong defense and pitching, Jacobs closed out the game, leading ODU to a 4-1 victory.Â
Game Two (L, 2-1)
Emma Grau took the mound for the second game, pitching all seven innings. She allowed six hits, two runs, one walk, and struck out seven Cavaliers on 102 pitches. Offensively, ODU managed just two hits and one run, along with four walks. Erica Massey and Leea Ibarra each contributed a hit.Â
How It Happened
The Panthers' only run came early, in the second inning, when Emily Holland grounded out to third base, bringing Triplett home for an RBI.Â
Walsh took the lead in the fifth inning after their leadoff hitter doubled to right-center, scoring two runs. Despite a strong pitching effort from Grau, ODU was unable to rally, and Walsh won 2-1.Â
