FLORENCE, Ind. - For the first time in program history, the Ohio Dominican Panthers men's golf team are conference champions! The Panthers defeated the Findlay Oilers 5-0 in the medal match on Wednesday (April 23) at Belterra Golf Club. 

ODU completed the sweep with four wins of four strokes against the Oilers, ranked #36 in the nation. Ohio Dominican had three rounds of under par in the final round match to clinch an automatic qualifier bid to the NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional in St. Joseph, Missouri from May 8-10. This will be the second time that the men's team is heading to the regional as a team. 

In the opening match of the day, Tyler Andersen took a lead on the first hole over Tyler Vallee after parring compared to Vallee's bogey. Andersen would not relinquish the lead, leading by as many as six strokes on the back nine. Leading by two strokes, Andersen birdied hole #11 while Vallee had a triple - ballooning the lead to six strokes. Andersen tallied a 1-under 70 in his round while Vallee shot a 3-over 74. 

Jeremiah Bane and Cahle Roth had a battle through the first nine holes before Bane rallied for a win in the second match. Roth used two pars to take a one-shot lead through the first two holes. Three straight birdies for Bane on holes three, four and five allowed Bane to take the lead back and push it to two strokes. A double bogey on the eighth hole by Bane allowed the match to be tied for the second time. Roth bogeyed the ninth and tenth holes with Bane notching a birdie on the tenth hole, giving Bane a three-stroke lead through ten holes. Bane gained two more strokes on the 13th hole with a birdie and a Roth bogey as Bane was up five with five holes to go. A triple bogey by Bane on the 15th hole closed the gap to two strokes but Bane closed the match with a birdie on 18 to win by four strokes. Overall, Bane was a 1-over 72 with Roth scoring 5-over 76.

Jackson Parnell erased a three-stroke deficit on the front nine to eventually seal the match for the Panthers against Brady Gazarek. Gazarek took advantage of two Parnell bogeys and used a birdie on the sixth hole for a three-stroke lead. A bogey on the seventh hole and a double on the ninth hole allowed Parnell to hold a tie at the end of the front nine. Parnell took the lead for the first time on the 11th hole as Gazarek had back-to-back bogeys. Gazarek got a stroke back on #13 with a Parnell bogey as he trailed by one stroke with five holes to go. A bogey on hole 16 for Gazarek allowed Parnell to get back to two up as Parnell clinched the match for the Panthers with a bogey on the 18th hole, defeating Gazarek with a 4-over 75 just in front of a 5-over 76. 

In the fourth match, Yadhu Urs battled the medalist from Findlay, Colin Schadek. The match was tied in the first three holes before Schadek birdied the fourth hole for the lead. On the seventh hole, Urs charged in front with a birdie on the par-3 as Schadek scored a bogey, creating a two-shot swing. Schadek had a bogey on the eighth hole and Urs birdied the ninth for a three-stroke lead after the first nine holes. Schadek got two strokes back on the 12th and 13th holes before giving them back on a pair of bogeys on 14 and 16. A birdie for Schadek on the 17th hole gave him some down two strokes but Urs slammed the door with a par on the par-5 18th as Schadek had a double bogey. Urs was 1-under 70 for the win as Schadek was 3-over 74. 

Bryce Cobb tallied the best round of the day in the fifth match against Luke Metzger. Cobb used four birdies on the front nine to lead by three strokes at the midway point of the round. With a lead, Cobb earned his fifth birdie of the day on the 13th hole for a four-stroke lead. Cobb finished with a career-low 66 (-5), completing the sweep with his sixth birdie on the final hole. Metzger was 1-under 70 for the round, falling by four strokes.
