Panthers Settle With A Split In Kentucky Before Coming Home For Weekend Play

Owensboro, KY - The Ohio Dominican softball team continued their week-long trip in Kentucky with a doubleheader against the Kentucky Wesleyan College Purple Panthers. The Black and Gold Panthers claimed a 6-1 victory in the first game but fell short in the second, losing 1-0. 

Game One (W, 6-1) 

Pitcher Marlee Jacobs took the mound to open the game, securing her sixth victory of the season. She limited KWC to just one run on seven hits, with no errors, one walk, and six strikeouts. Offensively, ODU delivered six runs on 10 hits. Addie Triplett, Erica Massey, Kaleigh Golden, Kendrick Sterling, Liana Morreale, and Lilly Irvine each recorded a hit, while Emily Holland led the way with two hits. 

How It Happened
In the first game, Ohio Dominican wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, loading the bases in the first inning. Kendrick Sterling then delivered an RBI single to left field, bringing Triplett home for the first run. Moments later, Emily Holland doubled to left field, driving in Golden and Sterling for two RBIs and giving ODU an early 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first. 

Kentucky Wesleyan responded in their half of the inning when Chloe Apple singled to left field, allowing Augusta Garr to score on an unearned run, narrowing the gap to 3-1. 

ODU extended their lead in the fourth inning when freshman Avery Mueller hit an RBI single to left field, bringing in Lilly Irvine for another unearned run. The Panthers added another run in the fifth when senior Liana Morreale lined a single down the right field line, sending Lilah Flores across the plate. 

Ohio Dominican secured an insurance run in the final inning when Lilly Irvine doubled to left field, scoring Shelby Flynn and solidifying the 6-1 win. 

Game 2 (L, 1-0) 

In their second game of the day, Ohio Dominican fell to KWC 1-0, marking KWC's first conference victory of the season. 

Freshman Emma Grau took the mound, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out 11 batters. Offensively, Ohio Dominican managed five hits, one walk, but failed to score. 

How It Happened
KWC's only run came early in the game, as Chloe Apple singled up the middle in the bottom of the first, driving in Cam Mann for what proved to be the game-winning RBI. 

Looking Ahead

With this result, Ohio Dominican now holds a 15-19 record and a 5-3 standing in the G-MAC conference. The team will return home to Panther Field for weekend doubleheaders against Walsh and Ashland.
