Pants Fall to Greyhounds in Mid-Week Doubleheader

Indianapolis, IN - The Ohio Dominican softball team (12-18) kicked off their week of away games with a doubleheader against the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds (19-13) yesterday. The Panthers had previously faced the Greyhounds earlier this season, suffering a 12-4 loss on opening weekend. This time, Ohio Dominican was defeated in both games, falling 0-2 in the first and 0-6 in the second.

Game One (L, 0-2)
In the first game, junior Marlee Jacobs took the mound, pitching six strong innings, giving up just three hits, two runs, two walks, and recording six strikeouts. Jacobs kept the game scoreless until the sixth inning. UINDY's pitcher, Cheyenne Eads, threw a one-hitter to earn the win, with Erica Massey breaking up the no-hitter.

How It Happened
The Greyhounds scored the only runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Eads hit a single to left field, allowing her and Josie Jager (who had walked after Eads) to score on a 2-RBI triple by Shelby Cook, putting UINDY on the board and securing the victory.

Game Two (L, 0-6)
In the second game, freshman Emma Grau took the mound for ODU, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits, six runs, and one walk. Senior Liana Morreale then came in for relief, tossing 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs or walks.

Offensively, ODU had a solid showing with eight hits, though they were unable to score. Kaleigh Golden led the team with two hits, while Erica Massey, Lilly Irvine, Shelby Flynn, Emily Holland, Emma Grau, and Saadie Maysonet each contributed one hit.

How It Happened
UIndy came out strong in the first inning when Cheyenne Eads doubled to center field for an RBI, driving in Brooklyn Willis. In the third inning, the Greyhounds added another run when Shelby Cook hit a sac fly for an RBI, scoring Willis and putting UIndy up 2-0 heading into the fourth.

The bottom of the fourth saw UIndy complete their scoring with four more runs. Brooklyn Willis singled to first base for an RBI, and Jocelyn Calvin followed up with a three-RBI double, bringing in two more Greyhounds. UIndy held ODU scoreless the rest of the game, securing their 19th win of the season with a 6-0 victory.

Coming Up
Next, the Panthers will return to conference play and continue their road trip, traveling to Kentucky to face the Thomas More Saints in a doubleheader on Saturday.
