TIFFIN, Ohio - After a weather delayed series finale, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (7-12, 1-3 G-MAC) and the Tiffin Dragons (11-9, 3-1 G-MAC) closed out the series with a high-powered doubleheader on Tuesday (March 18) at Heminger Field.
Ohio Dominican took game one 7-5 before a slugfest of 20-16 went to the Dragons in the nightcap.
Game 1 (W, 7-5 in 7 innings)
- Ohio Dominican compiled six runs on nine hits in the first two innings, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Jacob Adams and CJ Dean had RBI doubles in the first inning before six singles led to four runs in the second frame. Jordan Daniels and Gianni Passarelli singled home a run with Drew Emerson plating a pair of runs with one swing of the bat.
- In the fourth inning, Peter Jelenic made it 7-0 with a solo home run to right field.
- Tiffin clawed back to 7-5 with five runs crossing the plate in the fifth inning.
- The Dragons had the tying run on base in the seventh inning but Jared Hoersten slammed the door shut with a strikeout.
- Eight of the nine starters had a hit in the game, including Emerson and Jelenic having two hits each. Ohio Dominican finished with ten hits total.
- Steven Chapman started and pitched into the fifth inning before leaving with five runs allowed. He got the win, improving to 1-1 with 4.2 innings pitched. Jaxson Stried closed out the fifth inning with two walks and a strikeout while Hoersten earned the save with two scoreless innings - fanning four batters.
Game 2 (L, 20-16)
- Lots of runs lit up the Heminger Field scoreboard in the series finale. Ohio Dominican opened the scoring in the second inning after two errors. Two infield errors kept the inning alive for Jake Scherette with two outs. He lined a two-run triple to right center as the scoring started at 2-0.
- Between three runs in the second and seven in the third inning, Tiffin took back the lead and pushed it to 10-2.
- The Panthers scratched one run across in the fourth and fifth innings as they started to cut into the deficit. Daniels walked in the fourth and swiped two bases before Emerson singled him home in the 4th. Scherette hit into a fielder's choice in the fifth inning with the bases loaded as the score was 10-4.
- Tiffin got three runs in the fifth inning, ballooning the lead to 13-4.
- The second seven-run inning of the game occurred for ODU in the 6th inning. 11 men came to the plate as three hits and three walks led to a 13-11 game. Dean and Sam Battles walked with the bases loaded while Mason Kurtz singled home a run. An error brought the fourth run home and Jelenic cleared the bases with a three-run single.
- Just as the Panthers got within two runs, Tiffin expanded the lead in the seventh inning with seven more runs coming home. ODU trailed 20-11 after seven innings.
- Five Panther runs made the game really interesting in the eighth inning. Jelenic and Passarelli singled home runs before Dean drilled a three-run homer to center field as the lead was down to 20-16.
- ODU had 14 hits with Emerson and Jelenic having three-hit games. Passarelli, Dean and Kurtz all had games with two hits. Jelenic and Dean plated four runs apiece as Dean scored four runs.
Ohio Dominican heads to Ashland for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday (March 19) at 3:30 PM.
