COLUMBUS, Ohio - After a neutral site crossover, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (1-2) men's basketball team returned to the friendly confines of Alumni Hall for the first of four straight home games.
Ohio Dominican was able to avenge a 67-57 loss last season, defeating the Roosevelt Lakers (0-3) with a 68-52 final score on Saturday (Nov. 22) in the home opener.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton gave the Panthers a game-high 21 points on six field goals and nine-of-13 at the free throw line. Hinton grabbed nine rebounds with five of them on the offensive glass.
- Terrance Broughton was the second Panther in double figures with 13 points along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Derek Goodman knocked down two threes for a nine point effort and five rebounds.
- Zac Kimball picked up seven rebounds with two points and a pair of rejections.
- Caleb Conard was shy of a double-double as he scored seven points and pulled down ten rebounds. He was tied for the team lead with two blocks.
- Ohio Dominican shot 39.7% from the floor in the game, making 23-of-58 field goals but struggling from deep, only shooting 17.6% (3-17).
- At the free throw line, Ohio Dominican was 19-of-30 to Roosevelt's 17-of-25.
- The rebounding battle was all ODU 47-37, including 14-9 in offensive rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams exchanged points early on with four ties in the first ten minutes of the game. ODU led by as many as four points (10-6) during that stretch but Roosevelt got a 16-13 lead before it was all knotted up at 17.
- Roosevelt got the lead to eight points (27-19) with a 10-2 run before holding another eight point lead (29-21) with 6:40 to go. Five straight ODU points slimmed the lead to 29-26 but a three pointer got the Lakers advantage up to 36-28 with 2:56 left.
- Ohio Dominican ended the half on an 11-0 run, taking an 39-36 lead into halftime.
- Broughton started the second half with a three pointer as the run expanded to 14-0 over a span of nearly six minutes. Two free throws by Roosevelt closed the Panther lead to 42-38 and that was the closest the Lakers got for the second half.
- After a free throw to make it 51-46, ODU went on a 9-1 rally for a 13 point lead on a Goodman jumper with 6:02 left in the game. The lead remained double digits through the final buzzer as ODU won 68-52.
