COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team opened their 2025-26 season at home in Alumni Hall, securing their first win of the season against the Davenport Panthers, 68-49.
From the field, the Black and Gold shot 22-of-68, posting a 32.4% shooting percentage. From three-point range, they went 2-of-15, and they converted 3-of-8 free throws over four quarters. Ohio Dominican scored 40 points in the paint and forced eight turnovers from Davenport. Off the bench, the ODU Panthers contributed 14 points.
ODU held the lead for most of the game, with only two lead changes throughout the four quarters. Second-chance opportunities accounted for 12 points for the Black and Gold.
Leading the way for Ohio Dominican was forward Jenna Shackleford, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, along with five assists in 33 minutes — the most of any player. Senior Macy Chapman followed with 14 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the field in 30 minutes of play. Off the bench, Jazmyn Wheeler added nine points, going 4-of-5 from the field and 1-of-1 from the free throw line.
The first quarter featured competitive play from both teams, but ODU pulled ahead 17-12 after shooting 57.1% (8-of-14). In the second quarter, the Black and Gold's shooting dipped to 46.2% (6-of-13), yet they still carried a 32-23 lead into halftime.
After the break, ODU improved their shooting to 53.3% and made 3-of-4 free throws, outscoring Davenport 20-17 in the third quarter. In the final quarter, Ohio Dominican sealed their first win of the season by outscoring Davenport 16-9, shooting 12-of-15 from the free throw line and finishing the game with 49.1% from the field.
