Volleyball Secures 10th Sweep of the Season in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY - The Ohio Dominican volleyball team hit the road for a southern weekend trip, taking on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers on Friday before closing the weekend against Thomas More on Saturday. With a new 19-5 record, ODU came into Owensboro and swept the Purple Panthers in three sets.

Ohio Dominican led in every statistical category, posting a 10-3 advantage in aces and a 39-22 edge in kills, along with a commanding 54-29 lead in total points. At the net, ODU averaged a .250 hitting percentage on the night, highlighted by a .278 mark in the opening set.

Game leaders for ODU included Ashley Aselage, who paced the team with 10 kills and added two blocks. Jenna Peters dominated from the service line with five aces and chipped in eight kills. Saige Avery recorded her second straight double-double—after one at Central State on Tuesday—finishing with 19 assists, 11 digs, two blocks, and two aces. Sophomore Brynn Clark led the blocking effort with four.

The first set saw both teams showcasing their offense early, but ODU jumped out to a narrow 10-8 lead and never looked back, extending the margin to 20-15 before closing on a four-point run to take the opener, 25-18. In the second set, ODU's offense caught fire behind strong kills from Grace Zinchuk in the middle and Aselage on the outside. The Panthers opened with a 6-1 run and later went on an eight-point surge behind Peters' serve to go up 15-3, cruising to a 25-11 victory.

Set three featured more aggressive play from KWC, but ODU again jumped out to a 6-1 lead early. Consistent pressure at the service line pushed the advantage to 17-11 before KWC fought back to take a 22-17 lead. However, a late offensive burst from freshman Logan Rubel sealed the sweep for ODU, securing the team's 19th win of the season and ninth G-MAC victory. The win also marked ODU's 10th sweep of the year.
