COLUMBUS, Ohio - The ladies of Ohio Dominican's basketball team came back from a loss on Thursday night by Northwood looking to rebound today inside of Alumni Hall with a win against one of the top ranked teams in the conference, Malone University.
With lots of fight, the Panthers weren't able to get it done, ultimately, losing to the now 12-2 Pioneers, 74-61.
First Half Notes
The first quarter didn't see much action offensively from both teams with Malone shooting only 33.3% from the field to start the game. Behind the arc, the Pioneers shot 12.5%, taking eight shots.
Ohio Dominican out-shot Malone in the first ten minutes, shooting 36.4% from the field and 33.3% from behind the arc. Malone out-scored the Panthers with 13 points compared to their 12 to head into the second quarter.
As the second quarter erupted, the Pioneers showed their strength offensively, shooting their best out of any quarter from the field, 53.3%. From behind the arc, the Pioneers got hot, hitting four out of five shots, shooting 80%.
In reverse order, the Panthers couldn't capitalize on many shots, only hitting 4 out of 14 from the field and shooting 25% from behind the arc. Malone ended the second quarter limiting Ohio Dominican to only 12 more points while Malone capitalized, scoring 24 points in the quarter.
Heading into halftime the score laid at 37-24 with Malone hitting a three-point buzzer beater to take the Pioneers up 13 points. In the third quarter, the Panthers came out of the locker room with lots of fight.
Second Half Notes
Ohio Dominican ended up out-scoring the Pioneers in the third quarter, gaining 19 and limiting Malone to 17 points. But, by the end of the third quarter, Malone remained in their comfortable 11 point margin lead, heading into the final quarter with the score at 54-43.
The fourth quarter saw the Panthers continue to battle, but Malone's consistent offensive efforts and solid defense ultimately kept Ohio Dominican from closing the gap.
Despite a valiant push from the Panthers, the Pioneers maintained their lead, outscoring ODU 20-18 in the final quarter. Ohio Dominican struggled to generate consistent offense, while Malone capitalized on their opportunities to seal the win.
Game Notes
The Pioneers' 74-61 victory moved them to 12-2 on the season, while Ohio Dominican was unable to overcome the second-quarter deficit despite a strong third-quarter performance.
Malone scored a total of 13 points off turnovers, 26 points in the paint, and an impressive 25 points from their bench over the course of the game.
On the other hand, Ohio Dominican capitalized on Malone's turnovers for 11 points and added 24 points in the paint.
Sarah Ochs was a standout performer for the Panthers, contributing 24 points on 7-14 shooting, along with five rebounds and two assists. Macy Chapman followed as the second-leading scorer with 9 points.
