MASON, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (27-23) baseball team battled the Northwood Timberwolves (31-20) in an elimination game for the 2024 Great Midwest Baseball Tournament on Thursday (May 9).
The Panthers fell 7-6, ending their season in Pool A.
Ohio Dominican started the scoring in the first inning with a run scored on a groundout.
Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio) singled and moved around the bases on a balk and wild pitch.
Jack Mathey (Copley, Ohio) grounded out to score Marshall.
Northwood used five runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, Ohio Dominican trimmed the deficit to 5-3 with one swing of the bat.
Peter Jelenic (Medina, Ohio) singled as
Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio) blasted a two-run shot to left center field.
The Timberwolves gained a run back in the fifth inning, leading 6-3 after five frames.
Two more runs in the sixth inning pushed the Panthers to within one, 6-5.
CJ Dean (Columbus, Ohio) and
Spencer Tammaro (New Albany, Ohio) singled before
Jacob Adams (Troy, Ohio) reached on a fielder's choice.
Jake Scherette (Brunswick, Ohio) singled home two runs before the Panthers stranded two runners in scoring position.
Northwood made it 7-5 with a sixth inning run as Hunt started the seventh inning with a second homer of the day to left center. The Panthers could get any closer in a 7-6 defeat.
Hunt had two hits, both of the home run variety while accounting for three RBI.
Michael Lesiecki (Uhrichsville, Ohio) allowed six runs in four and one third innings.
Max Whitesell (Dayton, Ohio) gave up one unearned run in two and two thirds innings while
Steven Chapman (Dayton, Ohio) tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
