NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team wrapped up their regular season at Walsh University on Saturday afternoon. The Black and Gold took both games, 2-1 and 8-3.
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) and
Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) both went 3-7 from the plate today. Golden had a double and a stolen base while Madden scored three times and had two runs batted in. Three other players added two hits through the two games.
In the circle,
Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) and
Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) both collected wins for the Black and Gold. Hammer allowed only one run and had nine strikeouts. Smodilla recorded three strikeouts in her complete game.
Game One
For the third straight game, Golden opened the first inning with a hit, this time a double to left field. In the next inning,
Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) doubled as well and later scored on a sacrifice bunt from
Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio), making it 1-0 for ODU.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cavaliers tied it at 1-all. With the game on the line,
Addie Triplett (Johnstown, Ohio) singled to center field and scored thanks to a Cavs error, giving the Black and Gold a 2-1 win as Walsh had no answer in the bottom of the frame.
Game Two
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) grabbed one of her two hits in the first inning. In the bottom of the second, Walsh got on the board with the help of two hits. They extended their lead to 3-0 in the next inning.
In the top of the fourth, the Panthers went on a two-out rally, starting with consecutive singles from Madden,
Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio), and Triplett which scored one.
Shelby Flynn (Heath, Ohio) pinch hit a two RBI double to tie it up at 3-all.
An inning later, ODU grew their lead to 7-3 after three hits and an error from the Cavaliers. The Panthers plated another in the top of the seventh, making it 8-3. Walsh went down in order, securing the sweep for Ohio Dominican.
