COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team hits the road this weekend for the first time this month. The Panthers will travel to Malone University on Thursday to take on the Pioneers. They end their week at top ranked Ashland University on Saturday afternoon.
About Ohio Dominican
The Panthers moved to 6-15 overall and 3-10 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference after going 0-2 on the weekend against Ky. Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene. They currently sit in 12
th in the standings.
La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the way for the Black and Gold, averaging 15.0 points a game last week. Hill netted a career-high of 22 points against the Trojans. On the season, she averages 11.2 points and 2.3 steals, ranking fourth in the conference.
Following her was
Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) with 13.0 points a game last week. Stare tabbed 11 points on Thursday and 15 points on Saturday. The senior is third in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.5 points a game. She also posts the fourth best field goal percentage at 52.7 percent.
Junior,
Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) notched 14 points on Saturday going 5-10 from the field and 3-5 from behind the arc.
Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) secured nine points and a team high of seven rebounds. Right behind her was
Shannon Wojciak (Medina, Ohio) with seven points and six rebounds in eight minutes.
As a team, ODU is shooting 41.9 percent from the floor, 25.1 percent from the three point line, and 70.3 percent from the free throw line. They average 10.2 steals a game, ranking third among the conference.
About Malone
The Pioneers are 12-9 overall and 8-5 in the conference, placing them in seventh in the G-MAC standings. They most recently defeated Lake Erie, but fell to Ky. Wesleyan at home in overtime on Saturday.
Leading the way for MU is Erin Kaufman with 13.9 points a game. She also leads the team in blocks (0.5), field goal percentage (.545), and in rebounds (9.6). She ranks first in the conference in rebounds a game. Following her is Kyli Horn with 11.4 points a game. Horn dishes out 2.5 assists and snags 1.2 steals a game. Brooklyn Troyer is the last player to average double figure points with 10.3 a game.
As a squad, Malone is shooting 41.3 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from behind the arc (ranking second in the G-MAC), and 73.5 percent from the free throw line. MU trails in the all-time series, compiling a 34-35 record against ODU, dating back to their first meeting during the 1976-77 season. Within the Division II era, the Pioneers are 8-11 against the Panthers, despite winning the last three meetings.
About Ashland
The top ranked Eagles are 12-1 overall and a perfect 12-0 in the conference. They are first in the standings and in the WBCA. Ashland will host Ursuline on Thursday before welcoming Ohio Dominican on Saturday.
Annie Roshak leads the team in scoring and is fourth in the G-MAC, averaging 15.7 points a game while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor. Zoe Miller follows her with 14.0 points a game on 61.6 percent shooting. Hayley Smith is second in the conference in rebounding, averaging 8.3 boards a game.
As a unit, AU leads the conference in a number of different categories. They are shooting 49.5 percent from the floor, 36.6 percent from the three point line, and 75.7 percent from the charity stripe. They also average 20.4 assists a game, leading all Division II schools in the nation. Ashland is 20-0 against Ohio Dominican in the Division II era, and are 27-2 all-time dating back to 1980-81, when the two first met.
