Men's Basketball Falls in Battle of the Panthers

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team closed out the month of February with a contest with the Panthers coated in purple of Kentucky Wesleyan College. 

Kentucky Wesleyan defeated Ohio Dominican 94-54 on Thursday (Feb. 29) night at the Owensboro Sportscenter. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) set a career-high with seven triples for a game-high 26 points. McKitrick finished with nine field goals of 22 attempts. His seven made three pointers is tied for sixth best in the Division II era for Ohio Dominican. 
  • Caleb Maurer (Fort Loramie, Ohio) scored a career-high ten points off the bench in a season-best 24 minutes. He was three-of-seven shooting with two three pointers and both free throw attempts were good. 
  • Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio) joined Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) with five points scored on two field goals (one three pointer). Webb had four rebounds while Ruth counted for three boards and two assists.  
  • Lachlan MacDonald (Dublin, Ohio) gave ODU three points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds. 
  • Eli Meyer (Seymour, Indiana) made his second start of the season with two points scored, four rebounds and three assists. 
  • Christian Lee (Birmingham, Alabama) had one made three with four rebounds (a season-high). 
  • The Panthers shot 30.6% on the floor (19-of-62) in the contest. 
  • With 12 three pointers, the Panthers have eclipsed double-digit three for the seventh time this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kentucky Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-0 lead as the three point stroke of Ohio Dominican allowed the lead to shrink. After Ruth made the first three pointer, McKitrick nailed two straight three pointers as the game was tied at nine with three minutes gone by. 
  • Ten straight points by KWC allowed the home team to get ahead by double-digits. After Kentucky Wesleyan led by as many as 22 in the first half, three pointers from Webb, Maurer and McKitrick got Ohio Dominican within 16 points at the halftime break, 46-30. 
  • The purple Panthers outscored the Panthers in black and gold 48-24 in the second half as the final score was 94-54. 
UP NEXT
  • The final contest of the 2023-24 season will take place on Saturday (March 2) as Ohio Dominican remains in the Bluegrass State to take on Thomas More. The season finale is set for a 3:00 PM tipoff.
