ODU Takes Down #9 UIndy; Bested By UAH Chargers

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team finished up the Blue Bridge Battle by splitting on Saturday. The Panthers took down #9 Indianapolis, 8-3, but fell to Alabama-Huntsville, 3-1.

Leading the way today was Saadie Maysonet (Worthington, Ohio) and Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) with three hits on the day. Congleton secured all her hits in the opening game going 3-5 from the plate and snagging four runs batted in. Maysonet split hers up, having one against the greyhounds and going 2-3 against the Chargers. The sophomore added two RBIs and accounted for a run.

Following them was Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) and Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) with two hits each. Both went 2-4 from the plate with Golden accounting for two runs, collecting and RBI, and having a double. Stevens also scored twice and had a stolen base.

In the circle, Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) registered her fourth win of the year against the Greyhounds. The sophomore pitched 4.2 innings while retiring three. Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) came in to pitch 2.1 innings and struck out four. Hammer collected a save. Hammer added two strikeouts against the Chargers in her 6.0 innings pitched.

Game One
The Black and Gold started off strong in the opening inning with three consecutive base runners off one hit. Congleton drove in two runs with a single to centerfield to make it 2-0. Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) added to the mix with her own single, plating another run to push the Panthers lead to three.

More of the same happened in the next inning as back-to-back baserunners set the plate for a Golden RBI double. After a Stevens walk, a two-run single from Congleton extended ODU's lead to 6-0. In the bottom of the fourth, the Greyhounds got on the board with two doubles to make it 6-1.

UIndy added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, cutting their deficit in half, 6-3. Ohio Dominican responded in the top of the sixth with three hits to plate two, making it 8-3. The Greyhounds had no answer in their last two at bats, giving the Panthers an 8-3 victory.

Game Two
The Chargers collected their first hit in the top of the second inning, but left the runner stranded. The Panthers added a baserunner in the bottom of the third after Maysonet singled down the left side.

UAH got on the board first in the top of the sixth inning to take a 1-0 lead. Alabama-Huntsville plated two more in the top of the following inning to extend their lead to 3-0.

In their last at bat, the Black and Gold rallied with two outs. Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) walked and advanced to second off a Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.) single. She scored with the help of a Maysonet single up the middle to make it 3-1, but it wasn't enough as UAH retired the last batter.
