Softball Takes Down #2 GVSU In Sunday Sweep

HARROGATE, Tenn. – On Sunday, the Ohio Dominican softball team concluded the LMU Invitational with a sweep. The Panthers took down the #2 Lakers of Grand Valley, 4-2, and then defeated the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial, 7-2.

Junior Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) led the way with four hits on the day. Golden went 3-4 against Lincoln Memorial, including a double, and accounted for two runs. Following her was Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) with three hits on the day. Stevens had two doubles and two runs batted in while Congleton accounted for two runs and matched Stevens with two RBIs.

Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) and Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.) both accumulated two hits. Both hitters had a double while Potter notched three RBIs.

In the circle, Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) snagged her third win of the year over Grand Valley. The graduate accumulated seven strikeouts in her complete game. Sophomore Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) also grabbed her third win of the season. Jacobs had seven strikeouts in her complete game over Lincoln Memorial.

Game One
The Black and Gold got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning. With two outs, ODU strung together four hits, two doubles and two singles, to plate three runs. The Lakers answered in the top of the third, making it 3-1.

Three walks and a Stevens single in the bottom of the third frame pushed the Panthers' lead to 4-1. In the top of the seventh, GVSU had a pinch-hit solo homerun to make it 4-2, but left it there, securing a win for Ohio Dominican.

Game Two
In the second game, Golden led off with a double and scored off a Congleton single, making it 1-0 early. In the next inning, Sterling singled, setting up a Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio) homerun, to make it 3-0.

In the third inning, Potter secured an RBI double and then scored on an error to bring the Black and Gold's lead to 5-0. In the bottom of the frame, the Railsplitters plated one off a hit, making it 5-2.

In the top of the fourth inning, two hits accumulated two runs for the Black and Gold as they grew their lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Lincoln Memorial tabbed their second run, but couldn't come back, giving the Panthers their second win of the day, 7-2.

Ohio Dominican travels to the Blue Bridge Battle in Evansville, Indiana next weekend to play four games in two days.
